HOMPS is the ideal place to relax and find quietness far away from mass tourism.

Get your croissants from the baker's in the morning, have a stroll along the canal or go jogging to the nearby lake to have a swim before breakfast. Who, inspite of the substantial offers of markets and shops, does not want to do the cooking himself, could visit the nearby restaurants, enjoy a pastis in the happy hour under old trees and watch the houseboats while waiting for the meal to come.

Nature

Really beautiful and varied landscape offers ideal options for hikers and cyclists. You can do swimming, sailing and fishing at the LAC JOUARRES (10 minutes on foot), but also rent horses for riding out. You can also rent a bike at our neighbours.

There are a lot of climbing options in the nearby CLAP mountains and in the gorges of several  rivers where also excellent ways of doing canoe and kajak are offered. Mountaineers will see the nearby Pyrenees and sun worshippers the endless beaches of the Mediterranean. You can visit the „gouffres“ (stalactite caverns) – by the way an ideal place to hide from the midday heat, natural gorges and bizarre rocks. Of course, you can also rent a house-boat for day trips.

Culture

The old Cathar castles and abbeys, the Roman churches, the old city centre of Narbonne with its huge cathedral, the castle town of Carcassonne, towns and villages of the  Provence – you can reach all this within a day's trip.

A large number of good restaurants offering mediterranean meals, fresh fish and excellent wines which after „degustation“ (tasting) can also be bought directly from the producer, are waiting for friends of French cuisine and gourmets.

Thus, there is something to be found for everyone: those who are keen to do sports or culture sightseeing, sun and beach worshippers, gourmets or searchers for quiet places in the lovely nature just to relax...Those who want to take to the floor, will surely find night bars and discotheques in the beach ressorts or in Narbonne to enjoy night life.
