Holiday mansion in southern France
The beautiful village of Homps, about 600 inhabitants, is situated in the Occitanie region of the South of France (Languedoc-Roussillon). Besides its famous “Canal du Midi” is the region known for its good wines, endless beaches, green hills, snow-covered peaks, medieval castles and abbeys, the old cities of the Cathars, as well as for its romantic fishing villages.
Narbonne - with its famous cathedral - and Carcassonne - with its famous medieval castle - are only 30 minutes away. Other nearby cities include Beziers, Perpignan, Montpellier and Toulouse. You get to the beach of the Mediterranien Sea in about 35 minutes.
The Pyrenees are 80 km away and the Spanish border is in 120 km distance (Barcelona is only 220 km away).
Homps is a nice and peaceful village that has kept its genuine village character. In walking distance you will find a boulanger (bakery), a boucherie (butcher), a small grocery store, a supermarket, the church, the post office, a petrol station, five restaurants on the quai, as well as an internet café. To find larger supermarkets and more shops you can go to Olonzac (2 km) and Lézignan (10 km); the latter having a station, as well. Once a week there is a huge market all over the center of the city of Lézignan.
You can rent bikes and get tourist information (e.g. for renting boats) at the Capitainerie, our direct neighbour. Here you can also get public internet access, provided you bring along your own laptop. The beautiful Lac Jouarres is only 10 minutes away (on foot) and is always nice for a swim or relaxing in the bistro.
The mansion is part of a 200-year-old former wine-growing estate and is situated directly on the Canal du Midi. There are four independent flats, three of them with exceptional views of the canal, the vineyards and the nearby hills of the Montagne Noire (the black mountains). The fourth has its own terrace with direct access to the garden with a couple of olive trees.
The house is quietly situated on the edge of the village in a blind alley with access to a strolling and cycling path along the canal.

With 45m² in total is situated on the ground floor. It has two bedrooms (one with a double bed and one with two single beds), a living / dining room with an integrated kitchen unit and a small bathroom with shower.
An additional bed in the living room can accommodate up to two more persons.
This flat has direct access to the yard, which you share with appartement 2. You can sit on your terrace under the platanes for a decent breakfast in the morning or a refreshing drink in the afternoon.
With 70m² in total this flat is situated on the first floor and has got a large hallway, two bedrooms (one with a double bed and one with two single beds), an open chimney, a large living / dining room with an integrated kitchen unit and a spacious bathroom. Furthermore, there are additional beds, allowing another two persons to sleep.
Down the stairs you have access to the yard, which is shared with appartement 1.
With 140m² in total this flat is also situated on the first floor. A previous owner used to live in this flat, which is why it is not only the biggest, but also a very well equipped flat. It has got a hallway, a very large and beautiful bathroom with bathtub and walk-in shower, three bedrooms with double beds (160/160/140 cm). The spacious open kitchen has a dining table and is adjacent to the living room. A dishwasher is available.
A highlight of this flat, however, is the furnished roof terrace with barbecue equipment, which offers a great view of the port, the lake, the Montagne Noire and the Pyrenees - and the beautiful sundown over the canal.
With 80m² in total this flat is situated on the ground floor and has a large terrace with access to the beautiful garden with its two olive trees. You will be impressed by its open architecture and design. The flat has a beautiful bathroom with a walk-in rain shower and a bathtub. You can sleep on the mezzanine in the 160 cm double bed or on the comfortable sofa bed.
The high quality terracotta floor maintains the old charm of the house. Whether you prefer sunshine or shade, the terrace with its canopy will offer you both. It is also equipped with a charcoal grill, a large table and a lounge sofa. So you have everything you need to enjoy a cozy evening outside.
General information about the flats
All four flats are heated and therefore well suited for the quiet and relaxing mid-seasons with its lower temperatures.
All four flats are very well equipped with cooker, fridge and dishes etc. for self-sufficient guests.
There is a large storage room on the ground floor for bicycles and prams, as well as a washing machine for general use.
Radio with CD-facility is available in all flats. Flats 3 and 4 have additionally television sets.
Additional beds can be provided upon request.
